ten companies from Northern Illinois

The 15th Illinois Volunteer Infantry was the first 3 year service Regiment to be mustered in from Illinois, the second in the entire Union.

Follow the personal accounts of the men from these small Illinois towns after their muster at Camp Scott, Freeport Illinois. Their enlistment takes them to Missouri, then to the Battle of Shiloh where their ranks are decimated in the "Hornet's Nest".

Learn their impressions of the war in their own words.

when history consumes you

The constant desire to learn more. This book has been a project of Betty Obendorf of the Polo Historical Society and I for over eight years. Although I wish I could say we left no stone unturned, the information that continues to surface is amazing. The time has come to finalize. Publication planned for April, 2019.
